SEI

Entity Information

SEI was a company that made an attempt at getting into the unlicensed NES video game market. The company formed around 1989 and was located in Sanford, North Carolina, USA. Michael Brazier was the vice president of the company. His father, John Brazier, was the president of Epyx.

SEI's first and last attempt at selling an unlicensed title was with Epyx's Impossible Mission 2 for which they contracted Macronix to build the cartridges. Due to a licensing problem (SEI couldn't pay for the license on time), SEI could never sell the cart, however, they still reached manufacturing stage and so there are some Impossible Mission 2 carts floating around with white labels. These were not authorised by Epyx. Epyx went on to licensed the game to AVE instead.

Labels on Impossible Mission 2 still feature the name SEI and the notice "For play on the SEI Entertainment System". It is unlikely that such a system exists, but if it does, it would be a NES clone. This message was perhaps placed on the labels to fool Nintendo (Nintendo didn't like unlicensed games being made for their system so the notice would make it seem like the game was made for a different system). This notice even appears on the instruction manual of the HES release of the game.

After Impossible Mission 2, SEI was never heard from again.
