Indrema Entertainment System
Console Information

The Indrema L600 Entertainment System was planned
for release in mid-2001, however, the project was cancelled when
Indrema went bankrupt that same year. The console was to be built
around common computer hardware and based on the open source operating
system, Linux. It would have been the first modern console to allow
free software to be developed for it and made widely available via
"GameXchange".
It would have also come equipped with a web browser
(based on "Gecko"), MP3/Audio CD/DVD movie playback, HDTV
support, TV features (record and playback live TV) and a built-in
ethernet port for broadband connectivity (DSL, cable modem, LAN)
and was planned to have 30 games available upon release (no titles
were announced), one of which would have come bundled with the system.
Partnerships had been made with MetroLink, MetroWerks
and CollabNet to provide open source applications, tools and a forum
to promote game design and attract developer support. Had the system
been released, it would have provided some tough competition for
the other consoles on the market due to its huge range of media
support options and the planned release price of only US$299.
