Bit Corporation Gamate
Console Information

This handheld was made in 1990 by Bit Corp Korea to
compete with the Nintendo
GameBoy, which had been released two years earlier. In this
year, minor advertising took place in magazines in which the Gamate
boasted its 4-in-1 game cartridge that came with the console and
in some advertisements, even mentioned that a colour version was
on its way.
The Gamate couldn't stand a chance against the GameBoy
because of the GameBoy's far better games by well-known third party
producers and of course all of the advertising that Nintendo could
afford.
The console is shaped a little like the Sega
Game Gear (released the same year). There were apparently over
50 game titles available for the console but it is hard to tell
exactly how many were actually released because of the scarcity
of them. The system was available in the UK, Austria, France, Germany
and other parts of Europe as well as USA, Spain, South Africa, Mexico
and the Far East. It was distributed by Uranium in parts of Europe
and possibly some other places. The Gamate was released in small
numbers and so it is quite rare today.
