Atari 2600 VCSp

Variations

VCSp Original

This is the first design of the VCSp. It was made from an old-style Atari Video Computer System (Atari 2600) and the PCB was made smaller by removing unused spaces. This VCSp uses the screen from a Casio EV-550 portable television.

VCSp Revision 1

Revision 1 uses a 9V battery to power the Atari and 3 x AA batteries to power the TV screen. It's dimensions are: 11.43 x 19.05 x 5.08 cm (4.5 x 7.5 x 2 inches) and it weighs 1.36 kg (3 lbs)

VCSp Revision 2

Revision 2 has some internal changes made to speed up construction time. It also has a jack for a second controller so that 2 players can use the machine and an AV output jack has been added for TV connection. The design has been slightly changed and it weighs less. It's dimensions are still 11.43 x 19.05 x 5.08 cm (4.5 x 7.5 x 2 inches) but it weighs 907 grams (2 lbs).

VCSp Revision 3

Revision 3 has some improved features to make the console easier and more comfortable to play. The AV output jack still remains, but the second controller jack has been removed on this version. The power for both the Atari and the television screen now comes from one source: A NP-330 rechargeable Sony Info lithium camcorder battery.

VCSp Revision 3.1

This is the same as Revision 3 but it has been made using a cheaper screen. Because of the screen, some games are incompatible.

VCSp Revision 4

Revision 4 has a new design and also has a paddle controller built in. This one uses an RCA L2501 screen and has double the resolution of earlier models.

VCSp Revision 5

Revision 5 has the controls side-mounted. The screen is the same as Revision 4. This variation has the second controller port as well as AV output and DC input jacks.

VCSp Gold

The VCSp Gold has a 10.16 cm (4 inch) screen and improved casing. The cartridge slot if now at the back. It takes a larger battery for more power. It also has an AV output jack and 2 controller ports (2 consoles can be linked together).
